What American accent do you have?
Created by Xavier on Memegen.net

Northern. Whether you have the world famous Inland North accent of the Great Lakes area, or the radio-friendly sound of upstate NY and western New England, your accent is what used to set the standard for American English pronunciation (not much anymore now that the Inland North sounds like it does).

Take this quiz now - it's easy!
We're going to start with "cot" and "caught." When you say those words do they sound the same or different?

yes, I'm still alive.

Except this bad cold needs to go away.

I'm having trouble to bring myself here and write a real entry for some unexplainable reason.

Anyway

It's the year of the dog now.

Kevlar SouI: is there a place to play badmitton on campus?
ForeignTea: there must be. hell you can play in NCRB if you want
Kevlar SouI: does anyone play?
Kevlar SouI: do they have equipment?
ForeignTea: I don't think so
Kevlar SouI: ok
ForeignTea: about the equip
ForeignTea: ha that's about the only sport I play
ForeignTea: Americans don't even think of it as a sport
Kevlar SouI: yea, i asked cuz of your foreigness
ForeignTea: you have an almost offensive sense of humor
Kevlar SouI: thanks
Kevlar SouI: i wasnt trying to be funny
Kevlar SouI: i asked cuz u would know
ForeignTea: then you are just rude and quite politcally incorrect
Kevlar SouI: not really
Kevlar SouI: knowing asians play badmitton isnt any more politically incorrect than you saying "americans dont think its a sport"
ForeignTea: obviously people I've encountered here have that opinion, or I wouldn't assume so
ForeignTea: people compete professionally in badmitton
ForeignTea: clearly not the case here
ForeignTea: and not ALL asians play bedmitton or must know about it
Kevlar SouI: i didnt say they all did. but you would know about it before any white person i would ask
ForeignTea: why?
Kevlar SouI: and knowing you would know before them doesnt make me politically incorrect
Kevlar SouI: cause ur asian!
ForeignTea: just because of that? that's fucked up
Kevlar SouI: its not. everyone isnt the same
ForeignTea: exactly
Kevlar SouI: u probably know more chinese people than i do
Kevlar SouI: and people from china
ForeignTea: no I don't. I'm not from there
Kevlar SouI: and therefore may knowmore than americans where badmitton is
Kevlar SouI: i didnt say you were from anywhere
Kevlar SouI: i said you probably know more
ForeignTea: well, single out someone's "foreigness"
ForeignTea: and made vague assumptions on it is rather rude
Kevlar SouI: from now on i will pretend youre white and american
Kevlar SouI: then everyone will be happy and naive
ForeignTea: it's nothign about naivete, it's about stereotypes
Kevlar SouI: whatever. id ask any other foreign asian i knew before i asked any american about badmitton on campus
ForeignTea: have your wish. Don't expect too many friendly replies from people who are culturally sensitive

after skidding downhill for half a city block, I rear-ended rear-crunched a poor lady's car.

And this time actually with insurance. Sigh.

My roommate and I used the grill and made steaks. Also carmalized onions, grilled squash and baked potatoes. I drank beer. It feels like butch central in here today.

OMG

Michael Daugherty posts all these honor letters (of him) or commission publicities (of him) on the bulletin board outside his studio. It's so obnoxious.

I'm serious considering kneeing him in the nut like you said. You know who you are.

Netflix <3

Movie tonight was Being John Malkovich. I've been meaning to watch it for ages, and now the soundtrack seems to be a must-get as well. Matt and I were pretty much rolling on the floor in laughter throughout the whole thing. Maybe I should get Adaptation again to do abit more comparison.

Next in the mail upon request of roommie: Sex and the City season 1. This could be very a unproductive week.

I've sort finished learning the first movement of Sergei P's second piano concerto. It's a bit of a mini dream come true, though it's still work hours away from performable. Now the question would be whether or not to go ahead and learn the whole monstrosity.

A new assignment came down. Some ridiculous Plog tuba sonata shit. Goddamn it.

music: Symphonie op. 31- Anton Webern

Fall break is coming up.

They have this funny thing in the middle of the semester, aka fall break, where you get the monday and tuesday of a particular week off to make it a 4day weekend. Since I don't have any classes on Friday, I could kick some singers out of my schedule and make it a quintastic mini holiday. I thought about driving down to PA to visit [info]chtorr and see the real splendour of Barbourville, redeeming my last pathetic overnight stay on the way to NY.

The school is in full swing. Singers are sitting on my nerve endings.

The kitchen smells of fresh banana bread from the oven. It's comforting.

Pikatrushka: Also, one final UM related comment before you go to bed:
Pikatrushka: When I lived in New York a few summers ago,
Pikatrushka: Bright Sheng's girlfriend stayed on our couch for a week.
Pikatrushka: so we've spoken on the phone a lot, but he's never met me.
Pikatrushka: She was a fat blonde soprano
Pikatrushka: The End.
